A populous and prosperous village with 18.000 inhabitants
and also well known for its cultivation of oranges and
strawberries. Is is an important town next to ISLANTILLA (6
kilometers away) on the way to Portugal. It is one of the
loveliest and most picturesque places of this coast.
Its fishing port has an active market where fish is
auctioned. It's an unforgettable scene to watch the fishing
boats when they arrive and do their daily work, as well as
the pilgrimage in honour to the patroness "Virgen del
Carmen" , 16 th July every year. On the docks there are old
factories for canned food and salted fish, some still
active, you can see floors made of stones and extended nets.
You should include the light house and the pleasure harbour
in your sight-seeing tour.
When you are in the centre you can go for a walk, go
shopping or have "Tapas" in the wide and colorful streets.
You can have a look at the tiles and its modern buildings or
take a walk in the wide shadows of the ocean walk. Don't

In the surroundings you will have the chance to see the
natural area of the marshy region of the GUADIANA "Paraje
Natural Marismas del Río Guadiana" together with fantastic
sunsets. Apart from other activities that we ell point out
later on, we have to mention the motorbike concentration
witch will take place on the second weekend in August.
A white and simple village, situated in the inland. You can
get there leaving ISLANTILLA in the direction of ISLA
CRISTINA, right after passing the camp site.
We recommend you to visit the Town hall and its room in "Mudejar"
style (15th century).
Near this town you can find the "Palomar de la Huerta
Noble", witch is a surprising baroque building with tiles in
Portuguese style (18th century). O the coast it has a
peaceful, coastal pine tree forest and a nice beach, where a
discreet and charming housing estate, called URBASUR, has
LEPE - LA ANTILLA
It is the most important town near ISLANTILLA. A
shopping-centre with all services, perfect to go shopping or
have some "Tapas" (typical Spanish starters you have with
the aperitif) Don't forget the famous strawberries from Lepe
on your shopping list. Of all the monuments in LEPE we have
to pint out the cupola built in "Mudejar" style in the
chapel "Capilla de San Cristóbal" (13th century), and also
the church "Santo Domingo de Guzmán" witch contains the
worshiped statue of the patroness "Nuestra Señora de la
Bella (15th century).
LEPE is well known for the popular humor of its inhabitants,
but not so much for its growing economy and its modern
LA ANTILLA is the coastal town of this community or "the
beach". You can walk there from ISLANTILLA. You will see the
bustling and easy-going atmosphere, ideal to buy fish and
vegetables in the market, or even better, to have some "Tapas"
(typical Spanish aperitif) in any of the bars or street

Fishing port and pleasure harbor of LEPE. It's a very
important natural area. In the sky you can watch sea birds,
like spoonbills and cormorants, and in the air you can smell
the typical smell of salt in a port. The floor made of
stones and covered with fishing nets invites you to go for a
walk, especially right next to the sea. Visit the exhibition
centre "Aula del Mar" and its aquarium next to the small
dockyard. The boat "Azariel" which belongs to the shipping
company VMT, sometimes in the port and sometimes in the
surroundings, is one of the sights of the port.
From there you can see part of the protected natural area,
the marshy region named: Paraje Natural Marismas del Río
Piedras y Flechas de El Rompido". This is the right
atmosphere to have some "Tapas" in any of the hospitable
bars and restaurants.
Don 't forget to walk up a small hill to visit the hermitage
of the patroness "Nuestra Señora de la Bella", surrounded by
decorated stands. and where the pilgrimage in honor to this
patroness "La Bella" is celebrated every second weekend of
