A populous and prosperous village with 18.000 inhabitants and also well known for its cultivation of oranges and strawberries. Is is an important town next to ISLANTILLA (6 kilometers away) on the way to Portugal. It is one of the loveliest and most picturesque places of this coast.

Its fishing port has an active market where fish is auctioned. It's an unforgettable scene to watch the fishing boats when they arrive and do their daily work, as well as the pilgrimage in honour to the patroness "Virgen del Carmen" , 16 th July every year. On the docks there are old factories for canned food and salted fish, some still active, you can see floors made of stones and extended nets. You should include the light house and the pleasure harbour in your sight-seeing tour.

When you are in the centre you can go for a walk, go shopping or have "Tapas" in the wide and colorful streets. You can have a look at the tiles and its modern buildings or take a walk in the wide shadows of the ocean walk. Don't forget to buy salted fish and canned food front ISLA CRISTINA. Have a look at our report about tiles to get information when you go for a walk.

In the surroundings you will have the chance to see the natural area of the marshy region of the  GUADIANA "Paraje Natural Marismas del Río Guadiana" together with fantastic sunsets. Apart from other activities that we ell point out later on, we have to mention the motorbike concentration witch will take place on the second weekend in August.

A white and simple village, situated in the inland. You can get there leaving ISLANTILLA in the direction of ISLA CRISTINA, right after passing the camp site.

We recommend you to visit the Town hall and its room in "Mudejar" style (15th century).

Near this town you can find the "Palomar de la Huerta Noble", witch is a surprising baroque building with tiles in Portuguese style (18th century). O the coast it has a peaceful, coastal pine tree forest and a nice beach, where a discreet and charming housing estate, called URBASUR, has been built.

It is the most important town near ISLANTILLA. A shopping-centre with all services, perfect to go shopping or have some "Tapas" (typical Spanish starters you have with the aperitif) Don't forget the famous strawberries from Lepe on your shopping list. Of all the monuments in LEPE we have to pint out the cupola built in "Mudejar" style in the chapel "Capilla de San Cristóbal" (13th century), and also the church "Santo Domingo de Guzmán" witch contains the worshiped statue of the patroness "Nuestra Señora de la Bella (15th century).

LEPE is well known for the popular humor of its inhabitants, but not so much for its growing economy and its modern agricultural installations.

LA ANTILLA is the coastal town of this community or "the beach". You can walk there from ISLANTILLA. You will see the bustling and easy-going atmosphere, ideal to buy fish and vegetables in the market, or even better, to have some "Tapas" (typical Spanish aperitif) in any of the bars or street cafés. For further information check the section "Restaurants and Cuisine"

Fishing port and pleasure harbor of LEPE. It's a very important natural area. In the sky you can watch sea birds, like spoonbills and cormorants, and in the air you can smell the typical smell of salt in a port. The floor made of stones and covered with fishing nets invites you to go for a walk, especially right next to the sea. Visit the exhibition centre "Aula del Mar" and its aquarium next to the small dockyard. The boat "Azariel" which belongs to the shipping company VMT, sometimes in the port and sometimes in the surroundings, is one of the sights of the port.

From there you can see part of the protected natural area, the marshy region named: Paraje Natural Marismas del Río Piedras y Flechas de El Rompido". This is the right atmosphere to have some "Tapas" in any of the hospitable bars and restaurants.

Don 't forget to walk up a small hill to visit the hermitage of the patroness "Nuestra Señora de la Bella", surrounded by decorated stands. and where the pilgrimage in honor to this patroness "La Bella" is celebrated every second weekend of May.
